An operator ideal \({\mathfrak A}\) is tensor stable with respect to a tensor norm \(\alpha\), provided that for all operators S,T belonging to \({\mathfrak A}\) also \(S{\tilde \oplus}_{\alpha}T\) belongs to \({\mathfrak A}\). The authors show that any non-proper Banach-operator ideal with \(\sup_{n}A(id_{\ell^ n_{\infty}})=\infty\), A being the ideal norm, cannot be tensor stable with respect to \(\epsilon\) or any other injective tensor norm. They characterize those ideals among the (p,q)- factorable ideals \({\mathcal L}_{p,q}\) and their injective and surjective hulls which are stable with respect to \(\epsilon\) or \(\pi\). Essentially one gets the p-integral, p-summing operators or their duals. A corresponding result is given for the (p,q)-compact operators. Some applications are given in the third section.
