Compactness theorems for spaces of functions with bounded derivatives and applications to limit analysis problems in plasticity (Q1119050)

The author proves the variational theorem that arises in the areas of mechanics and, especially, of plasticity. The results are of general mathematical interest, independent of their applications. The theory of minimal surface, capillarity and antiplane shear in plasticity are concerned by application of the theory. The theory is also applied to the problem of equilibrium configurations of the perfectly plastic materials and the elastic-perfectly plastic plates.
