Consider the operators \(L_ 1\) and \(L_ 2\) defined by \(L_ iu(x)=- u''(x)+q_ i(x)u(x)\) where \(q_ i\in L^{p_ i}(I)\), \(p_ i\in (1,+\infty)\) and I is a finite interval. Let \(\lambda_{i,k}\) be the eigenvalues of \(L_ i\) with corresponding complete orthogonal systems of eigenfunctions \((u_{i,k})\), \(i=1,2\) and \(k=1,2,..\). For a given absolutely continuous function f consider the partial sums \(\sigma_{i,\mu}(f,x)=\sum <f,u_{i,k}>u_{i,k}(x)\) where the summation is taken over those k for which \(| Re(\sqrt{\lambda_{i,k}})| <\mu\). The author proves that if K is an arbitrary compact subset of I, then for any f in \(W^ 1_ 1(I)\) there is a constant C(K), depending only on K, such that \(| \sigma '_{i,\mu}(f,x)-\sigma '_{2,\mu}(f,x)| \leq C(K)\| f\|_{W^ 1_ 1},\) holds uniformly in K.
