      Let \(a_ i\), \(i=1,2,...,n\), be positive numbers, \(0<a_ 1<a_ 2...<a_ n\). Define \(\delta_ tx=(t^{a_ 1}x_ 1,...,t^{a_ n}x_ n),\) \(t>0\), where \(x=(x_ 1,...,x_ n)\in R^ n\). Then the maximal function, \[ Mf(x,v)=\sup_{r>0}\frac{1}{r}\int^{r}_{0}| f(x-\delta_ tv)| dt, \] is bounded in the mixed norm spaces, \(L^ p(L^ q(S^{n-1}),R^ n)\), provided (1) \(1<q\leq (2(n-1+1/n))/(n-1)\) and \((q(n-1+2/n))/(n-1+2q/n)<p\leq \infty\), (2) \((2(n-1+1/n))/(n-1)<q\) and \((q(n-1))/(n-1+2/n)<p\leq \infty\). R. Fefferman, M. Christ, J. Duoandikoetxea and J. L. Rubio de Francia have given complete results in the case \(a_ 1=a_ 2=...=a_ n=1\).
