A subspace Y of the Banach space \(\ell_ p\) \((1<p<\infty\); \(p\neq 2)\) is termed constrained if it is the range of a norm-one projection. Among other things the author shows that if a subspace \(Y\subseteq \ell_ p\) has codimension n then Y is constrained if and only if it is the intersection of n constrained hyperplanes. It turns out that in this case there exists a basis \(\{f_ 1,...,f_ n\}\) for \(Y^{\perp}\) (orthogonal complement of Y) such that every \(f_ i\) has at most two non null components.
