Certain states on the Cuntz algebra \({\mathcal O}_ 2\), and the von Neumann algebras obtained from their GNS representations, are considered. The main result is that every (separable) injective factor can be obtained from a state on \({\mathcal O}_ 2\) which extends the tracial state on the Choi subalgebra. This solves a problem posed by Lazar, Tsui, and Wright.
