The theorems referred to in the title are from the monograph ``Dynamics of Polymeric Liquids. Vol. I. Fluid mechanics'' [Chichester, Sussex, England: Wiley (1977)] by \textit{R. B. Bird}, \textit{R. C. Armstrong}, and \textit{O. Hassager}, and state that velocity and pressure fields that satisfy the equations for creeping (planar) flow of incompressible Newtonian liquids also satisfy the corresponding equations for incompressible second order fluids. The author points out that in general there is no one-to-one correspondence between such solutions, since for second order fluids additional boundary conditions have to be specified. This is illustrated by a discussion of axial flows between concentric pipes with suction and of flows about rotating coaxial cylinders with suction.
