J-property of Jordan arcs (Q1122683)

The class of finite Jordan arcs L of the complex plane possessing the J- property (J-arcs) may be characterized by the validity of the classical Jackson's theorem (cf. \textit{D. J. Newman} [J. Approximation Theory 10, 206-217 (1974; Zbl 0274.30003)]). \textit{Dzh. I. Mamedkhanov} [Problems on best polynomial approximation in the complex plane. (Russian) Theory of functions and approximations, Part 1, Proc. Saratov Winter School, Saratov 1982, Saratov. Gos. Univ., Saratov, 149-156 (1983)] proposed a sufficient condition for L to be a J-arc. In the paper under review, conversely, the necessity of that condition is proved.
