Let R be an indecomposable reduced root system of rank r and fix a basis \(B=\{\beta_ 1,...,\beta_ r\}\) of R. The height function (with respect to B) is ht: \(R\to {\mathbb{Z}}\), \(\sum_{i}c_ i\beta_ i\mapsto \sum_{i}c_ i\). Let h be the Coxeter number of R. Then a basis \(\{b_ 1,...,b_ r\}\) is ``special (with respect to B)'' if \(ht(b_ i)\equiv ht(b_ j) mod(h+1)\), for all \(1\leq i,j\leq r\). The author classifies all special bases of R. In particular, he shows that the number of special bases is \(\phi (h+1)\), where \(\phi\) is Euler's phi-function. The classification is deduced from the author's results of [J. Algebra 108, 1-33 (1987; Zbl 0628.22004)].
