The authors describe the role of energy metabolism in certain aspects of the immune response, especially the antitumor response by T cells. The basic idea is that cellular changes caused by the recognition of antigens affect the metabolism of the immune system cells and that these changes play an important role in the response. The model consists of a system of ten nonlinear differential equations with essentially no derivation given in this paper. Study of a special case shows the existence of a cusp catastrophe in certain variables related to the dynamics of lymphopoesis. This paper reports potential uses of the model.
