Let G be a group with identity element 1 and \(R=\oplus_{\sigma \in G}R_{\sigma}^ a \)G-graded ring. The main theme of this paper is the use of the functors Ind: \(R_ 1\)-mod\(\to R\)-gr and Coind: \(R_ 1\)- mod\(\to R\)-gr to explore the relationships between the category \(R_ 1\)- mod of modules over the ring \(R_ 1\) and the category R-gr of graded modules over R. These functors are introduced in the first section of the paper, where their relation with the suspension functors and the homogeneous component functors is analyzed in detail and expressed in terms of adjunctions. These results are then applied to the construction of the gr-injective envelope of a graded module. Section 2 is devoted to studying G-graded rings with finite support and, in particular, gr-injective modules over these rings. Finally, in Section 3, the author obtains an elegant generalization of a result of \textit{E. C. Dade} [Math. Z. 174, 241-262 (1980; Zbl 0424.16001)] which asserts that the ring R is strongly graded precisely when the functor \((\)-)\({}_ 1: R\)-gr\(\to R_ 1\)-mod, which assigns to each gr-module M its homogeneous component \(M_ 1\), is an equivalence of categories. Here it is shown that given \(\sigma\in G\), if \({\mathcal C}_{\sigma}\) denotes the localizing subcategory of R-gr consisting of the graded modules whose \(\sigma\)- component is zero and R-gr/\({\mathcal C}_{\sigma}\) the corresponding quotient category, then there is an equivalence of categories between \(R_ 1\)-mod and R-gr/\({\mathcal C}_{\sigma}\) which in case of R being strongly graded reduces to the one given by Dade's theorem.
