The main goal is to study solutions of a mixed boundary value problem for the Laplace equation in degenerating two- and three-dimensional domains which can be described as ``wheels with spokes'', as thickness \(\varepsilon\) of the ``spokes'' tends to \(0\). Using a modified method of matched asymptotic solutions and some properties of the corresponding boundary layers, the author obtains asymptotic series in \(\varepsilon\) for the solutions. Additionally, a model problem is investigated concerning the selfadjoint extension of a differential operator defined on the aforementioned degenerating domains.
