[Part I, \textit{S. Kanemitsu} and \textit{M. Yoshimoto}, Acta Arith. 75, 351-374 (1996; Zbl 0860.11047); Part II, \textit{M. Yoshimoto}, Acta Math. Hung. 78, No. 4, 287-304 (1998).] The authors obtain further results on the ``equivalence problem'', i.e., equivalent formulations of the Riemann hypothesis (RH) in terms of the distribution of the Farey fractions. The results are mainly of a local nature in the sense that RH is proved to be equivalent to suitable estimates for certain error terms involving the Farey fractions \(\rho_n\) of order up to \(x\) satisfying \(\rho_n\leq\xi\), with \(\xi= {1\over 5}\) and \(\xi={1\over 6}\).
