By a cone is meant an open subset of \(\mathbb{R}^n\) \((n\geq 2)\) of the form \(\{(r, \theta): r>0,\theta \in\Omega\}\), where \(\Omega\) is a connected, relatively open subset of the unit sphere. The paper generalizes to arbitrary cones several results about solutions of the classical Dirichlet problem which were originally proved for half-spaces. Some of the results that are generalized are indicated below. Let \(f\) be a real-valued continuous function on the finite boundary \(\partial D\) of an open half-space \(D\) in \(\mathbb{R}^n\). Suppose that \(f\) satisfies a condition of the form \(\int_{\partial D} (1+\| x \|)^{-k} | f(x) | d\lambda (x)< +\infty\), where \(k>0\) and \(\lambda\) denotes \((n-1)\)-dimensional measure. If this holds with \(k=n\), then the Poisson integral \(I_f\) of \(f\) provides a classical solution of the Dirichlet problem in \(D\) with boundary function \(f\). If \(k>n\), then the Poisson kernel of \(D\) can be modified so that the correspondingly modified Poisson integral \(I_{f,k}\) again solves the Dirichlet problem. Moreover, \(I_{f,k}\) satisfies a certain growth condition (involving weighted mean values over hemispheres), and any other solution of the Dirichlet problem satisfying the same condition differs from \(I_{f,k}\) by a harmonic polynomial; see \textit{H. Yoshida} [Pac. J. Math. 172, 591-609 (1996; Zbl 0853.31004)]. Even for an arbitrary continuous function \(f\) on \(\partial D\), there is a modified Poisson kernel (depending on \(f)\) for which the corresponding modified Poisson integral solves the Dirichlet problem; see \textit{S. J. Gardiner} [J. Lond. Math. Soc. (2), 24, 502-512 (1981; Zbl 0445.31008)].
