The paper aims to generalize a result by Harish-Chandra to quantum groups by describing a \(q\)-deformed analogue of a Hermitian symmetric space of a non-compact type which is embedded as a bounded symmetric domain in a complex vector space. Let \(\mathfrak g\) be a simple complex Lie algebra decomposed into a direct sum \(\mathfrak g = \mathfrak g_{-1}\oplus\mathfrak g_0\oplus\mathfrak g_1\) where \(\mathfrak g_j\) are eigen-spaces of \(\text{ad}_{H_0}\) and \(H_0\in\mathfrak h\) is determined by a simple root \(\alpha_0\). \(U_q\mathfrak g\) is the standard \(q\)-deformation of the universal enveloping algebra and the Hopf algebra \(U_q\mathfrak g(\alpha_0)\) is determined by an antilinear involution. First one constructs \(U_q\mathfrak g\)-module algebras \(\mathbb C[\mathfrak g_{-1}]_q\) and \(\mathbb C[\overline{\mathfrak g}_{-1}]_q\) with the aid of generalized Verma modules. Then one introduces a polynomial algebra \(\text{Pol}(\mathfrak g_{-1})= \mathbb C[\mathfrak g_{-1}]\otimes\mathbb C[\overline{\mathfrak g}_{-1}]\) with a multiplication in the tensor product of algebras being defined with the aid of the universal \(R\)-matrix. Finally a von Neumann algebra \(L^\infty(U)_q\) of continuous functions on the closure of a bounded symmetric domain \(\overline U\) is defined using a completion of \(\text{Pol}(\mathfrak g_{-1})\) with respect to the norm \(\|f\|=\sup\|\rho(f)\|\) where \(\rho\) runs over the irreducible \(\ast\)-representations of the algebra. The whole construction is illustrated in detail on the example of the Hermitian symmetric space \(SU(1,1)/U(1)\). After having explained the construction the authors develop the theory further by introducing Dolbeault complexes.
