The main object of this paper is first to answer a question of \textit{D. M. Campbell} and \textit{V. Singh} [Pac. J. Math. 84, 29-33 (1979; Zbl 0387.34012)] in the affirmative, and then to show that Komatu's conjecture and Thomas' conjecture are false at least in some cases. The results are stated and proved in the form of two theorems.
