On the discrepancy of the sequence \((\alpha\sqrt {n})\). II (Q1127984)

Let \(\alpha >0\) and denote by \(D_N (\alpha)\) the discrepancy of the sequence \((\alpha \sqrt n)^\infty_{n=1}\). Using a result of \textit{J. Schoißengeier} and \textit{C. Baxa} [J. Lond. Math. Soc. (to appear)] the author calculates \[ \limsup_{N\to \infty} D_N (\alpha)/ \sqrt N \] in the case \(\alpha^2 \in\mathbb{Q}\). The case \(\alpha^2 \notin \mathbb{Q}\) was settled by \textit{J. Schoißengeier} [Acta Math. Acad. Sci. Hung. 38, 29-43 (1981; Zbl 0484.10032)].
