Bivariate approximation is effected as the tensor product of two like univariate nodal spline approximations. The smoothness behaviour of the resultant 2D interpolation is investigated, and the errors expressed in terms of appropriate moduli of continuity of the approximated function and its partial derivatives. Results for sequences of quasi uniform nodal splines are also obtained and are used to investigate convergence, and error bounds in the calculation of 2D Cauchy principal value integrals. The results on approximation would appear to have applications in numerically evaluating other 2D integrals.
