In the paper the real quadratic family \(f_{a}=ax(1-x)\) is considered. For \(0<a\leq 4\) it is proved that the mapping \(f_{a}\) has an attracting cycle and thus is hyperbolic for an open and dense set of parameters \(a\). This dense hyperbolic theorem follows from the more general result. Given two conjugated real quadratic polynomials \(f\) and \(\widehat f\) which have a bounded forward critical orbit and no attraction or indifferent cycles the authors show that the conjugacy can be extended to a quasiconformal conjugacy between their analytic continuations to the complex plane. The dense hyperbolic conjecture has a long history. In 1920 Fatou expressed the belief that generic rational maps are expanding on the Julia set. The results of this paper can be regarded as progress in the verification of his conjecture.
