In his treatise ``Pancasiddhantika'' the 6th century Indian astronomer \textit{Varahamihira} gave rules for finding longitudes for the Moon and planets which can be considered to be quadratic functions. These are presented in modern algebraic form. The Babylonians had used arithmetic procedures for the same purpose. Examples of those are given, too. The author concludes that Indian astronomers probably borrowed their numerical data from Babylonian sources.
