Assume that \(R\) is a discrete valuation ring with quotient field \(K\) and residue class field \(F\). Moreover suppose that \(K\) is the splitting field of a finite dimensional symmetric algebra \(A^ K:= K\otimes_ R A\). In his main theorem the author describes full sets of inequivalent isomorphism types of projective simple \(A^ K\)-modules and \(A^ F\)- modules by means of the set of irreducible \(A^ K\)-characters. The first application yields a semi-simplicity condition for Hecke algebras of finite groups. Another application concerns specializations of generic Hecke algebras connected to finite Coxeter groups as well as modular representation theory of finite groups of Lie type.
