In a strip \(\pi=R\times(0,T)\) the equation \(u_ t=(u^ m)_{xx}+(u^ \lambda)_ x\) is considered. Here \(m>0\), \(0<\lambda<1\), \(u(x,0)=u_ 0(x)\), where \(u_ 0(x)>0\), \(x\in(0,a)\), \(a<\infty\); \(u_ 0(x)\equiv 0\), \(x\in R\backslash(0,a)\). It is proved that the existence of points of singularities of \(u_ x\), \((u^{m-\lambda})_ x\) is not connected with the smoothness of \(u_ 0\). The behavior of the support of the function \(u(x,t)\) as \(t\) increases and the smoothness of the support boundary are studied.
