A convex set \(X\) of a locally convex space is called \(R\)-factorizable if for each continuous real function \(f: X\to\mathbb{R}\) there are a metrizable separable convex set \(Y\) of a l.c.s., a continuous affine map \(g: X\to Y\) and a continuous function \(h: Y\to\mathbb{R}\), such that \(f=h\circ g\). Theorem: Let \(X\) be a convex subset of a l.c.s. \(L\) and let \(X\) be \(R\)- factorizable. Suppose that there exists a sequence \(\{F_ n\}_{n\in\mathbb{R}}\) of subsets of \(L\), such that: a) for each \(x\in X\) and \(n\in\mathbb{N}\) there is an \(\epsilon>0\) such that \(tx\in F_ n\) for every \(0<t<\epsilon\); b) for each neiborhood \(V\subset L\) of the origin there is an \(n\in\mathbb{N}\) such that \(F_ n\subset V\). If \(X\) is a normal space, then the extent of \(X\), \(e(X)=\sup\{| Z|: Z\subset X\), \(Z\)-discrete and closed in \(X\}\leq\aleph_ 0\). It is shown also that if \(Y\) is a Tychonoff space, then \(C_ p(Y)\) is a normal space iff it is a collectively normal space; if \(Y\) is a l.c.s. which is a continuous affine image of a metrizable l.c.s. and if \(Y\) is endowed with the weak topology, then \(Y\) is normal iff it is collectively normal.
