The paper establishes the existence of classical solutions to the quasilinear evolution equations in Banach spaces. The operator coefficients are generally functions of time and the Banach spaces need not be reflexive. The result is a generalization of the result of T. Kato, whose existence theorem requires the reflexivity. The method of proof is based on a difference approximation and is a strengthening of the previous results of the author of the paper, of Y. Kato, whose existence theorem requires the reflexivity. The method of proof is based on a difference approximation and is a strengthening of the previous results of the author of the paper, of Y. Kobayashi, M. G. Crandall and P. E. Souganidis. The author also gives an elegant proof of the convergence of the solutions corresponding to a convergent sequence of equations. He considers this sequence together with the limiting equation as a single equation in the Banach space of convergent sequences with elements in the original space, and applies his existence result. This is made possible by his removal of the reflexivity assumption, since the Banach space of convergent sequences is nonreflexive even when the original space is reflexive.
