Given an entire function \(\eta\) such that \(\eta(k)=\eta(-k)\), \(\eta(k)=\overline{\eta(k)}<0\) for real \(k\), and \(| \eta(k)| > ck^ 2\) as \(k\to +\infty\), the author constructs a potential whose scattering amplitude has its so-called ``redundant poles'' at the zeros of \(\eta\). The case \(\eta(k)=-\xi({1\over 2}+k)\) with \(\xi(s)=\) \({1\over 2}s(s-1)\pi^{-s/2}\Gamma(s/2)\zeta(s)\), where \(\zeta(s)\) denotes the Riemann zeta-function, is investigated in some detail. As his main technical tool, the author makes use of the inverse scattering method.
