Simple periodic modules of twisted Chevalley groups (Q1175097)

The authors consider the classification of all irreducible periodic modules of twisted Chevalley groups \(\Gamma\) in their own characteristic. It is known that the Steinberg module \(St\) is the unique simple projective module for finite groups of Lie type. The authors prove that if \(\Gamma\) is not of type \(^ 2A_ 2\) or \(^ 2B_ 2\) then the only periodic simple \(K\Gamma\)-module is \(St\). Combining with Fleischmann, Janiszczak, Jantzen and Jeyakumar's work in this direction, one can conclude that for finite groups of Lie type there are simple periodic modules, other than \(St\), only for groups of type \(A_ 1\), \(^ 2A_ 2\) and \(^ 2B_ 2\).
