This paper consists of two parts. In the first part, the author gives new approaches to Liouville's theorem in the study of conformal mappings of Euclidean space. He shows how to simplify the standard proofs of this theorem using the observation that the normal curvature of a curve in a hypersurface changes under conformal mappings. In the second part, the author uses a technique introduced in his earlier paper [Duke Math. J. 46, 183-201 (1979; Zbl 0422.53006)] to find invariants of surfaces in \(R^ 3\) with respect to the group of conformal mappings.
