It is known that every compact orientable two-dimensional manifold of positive genus admits an expansive homeomorphism [\textit{J. F. Jakobson} and \textit{W. R. Utz}, Pac. J. Math. 10, 1319--1321 (1960; Zbl 0144.22302)]. In the paper under review the authors show that the compact two-manifolds do not admit expansive flows. To establish this result they first prove that if \(K\) is a connected \(n\)-dimensional finite complex \((n\geq 1)\) with Euler characteristic \(\chi(K)=0\), then the polyhedra \(| K|\) admits no expansive flow.
