A mapping \(T: K\to K\), where \(K\) is a subset of a Hilbert space, is called quasi-contractive (rather \(k\) quasi-contractive) in the sense of Ciric, if there exists a constant \(k\in[0,1)\) such that for each \(x,y\in K\), \[ \| Tx-Ty\|\leq k\max(\| x-y\|,\| x-Tx\|,\| y- Ty\|,\| x-Ty\|,\| y-Tx\|), \] where \(\| x-Tx\|\), \(\| y-Ty\|\) were introduced by \textit{R. Kannan} [Bull. Calc. Math. Soc. 60, 71-76 (1968; Zbl 0209.27104)] and \(\| x-Ty\|\), \(\| y- Tx\|\) by the reviewer [C. R. Acad. Bulgar Sci. 25, 727-730 (1972; Zbl 0274.54033)]. In an answer to an open problem raised by Rhoades, the author has proved convergence theorems for both the Mann iteration process and the Ishikawa iteration process for continuous quasi- contractive mappings in \(L_ p\) spaces. The present work contains the case when \(1<p\leq 2\).
