Consider boundary value problems which can be written in abstract form (*) \(Lu=N(u)\), where \(U\), \(V\) are real normed spaces, \(L: \text{dom}(L)\subset U\to V\) is linear, Fredholm and of index 0, and \(N: U\to V\) is \(L\)-completely continuous. Assume that \(N(u)=G(u)u+R(u)\), where \(G(u): U\to V\) is positively homogeneous and belongs to some convex set \({\mathcal E}(U,V)\) and \(R(u)=o(\| u\|)\), as \(\| u\|\to\infty\). If \(Lu=Su\) has no non-trivial solution for all positively homogeneous \(S\in{\mathcal E}(U,V)\), then it is shown that (in three different settings) under additional hypotheses, (*) has a solution.
