Classification of \(BG\) for groups with dihedral or quaternion Sylow 2- subgroups (Q1176701)

Let \(G\) be a finite group with 2-Sylow subgroup \(G_ 2\) a dihedral or generalized quaternion group. By a well-known transfer argument the classifying space \(BG\) localized at 2 is stably a wedge summand of \(BG_ 2\). A complete stable decomposition of \(BG_ 2\) has been given by \textit{S. Mitchell} and \textit{S. Priddy} [Am. J. Math. 106, 219-232 (1984; Zbl 0551.55005)]. Thus any \(BG\) as above splits as a wedge of some of these known indecomposable pieces of \(BG_ 2\). In the present paper the authors determine all possible summands of \(BG_ 2\) that may occur as the stable 2-local type of \(BG\).
