The author studies the character space \(\widehat K\) of a commutative hypergroup \(K\). Some conditions for characters \(\alpha\in\widehat K\) are established ensuring that \(\alpha\in\text{supp }\pi\), where \(\pi\) denotes the Plancherel measure on \(\widehat K\). In particular, the author obtains that \(\text{supp }\pi=\widehat K\) provided there exists a dual convolution on \(\widehat K\) and \(1\in \text{supp }\pi\). Connected with the problems studied in this paper are counter-examples contained in a recent paper of \textit{H. Zeuner} [Polynomial hypergroups in several variables (to appear in Arch. Math.)].
