For a special kind of real analytic Jordan curves \(\gamma\) in \(\mathbb{R}^ 2\), the authors manage to obtain the asymptotic development of the Fourier integral \(\int e^{-i(x_ 1\zeta_ 1+x_ 2\zeta_ 2)}(\partial x_ 1+idx_ 2)\) (when \(|\zeta_ 1|^ 2+|\zeta_ 2|^ 2\to\infty\)) along submanifolds of \(\mathbb{C}^ 2\), \(\zeta^ 2_ 1+\zeta^ 2_ 2=\alpha>0\). They do this by the method of steepest descent. The significant point is that for \(\rho=\sqrt{|\zeta_ 1|^ 2+|\zeta_ 2|^ 2}\), the order of magnitude of this integral is \(\rho^{-5/2}\), against an expected \(\rho^{-1/2}\) from the stationary phase method (which doesn't apply). As a corollary, they show that some special curves satisfy the Pompeiu property [cf., \textit{L. Zalcman}, Amer. Math. Mon. 87, 161-175 (1980; Zbl 0433.53048) for definitions and references]. The authors have managed to extend this work in subsequent papers (one of them to appear in Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 325, 273-286 (1991; see the following review): Obtaining that, Jordan curves \(\gamma\) which are the image of the circle by a polynomial map, have the Pompeiu property if \(\gamma\neq\) circle.
