Complex systems are considered, composed of subsystems, that optimize entropy-like performance indices over a common constraint set. The problem of finding optimal solutions is reduced to checking the contraction property of a nonlinear operator related to the problem. Local stability of optimal solutions is analyzed using the method of linearization. For specific constraints sufficient conditions for stability are found. The systems dealt with throughout the paper can be interpreted as models of urban or communication systems.
