Heineken-Mohamed groups are non-nilpotent \(p\)-groups, \(p\) a prime, in which every proper subgroup is both subnormal and nilpotent. Such groups have been constructed by \textit{H. Heineken} and \textit{I. Mohamed} [J. Algebra 10, 368-376 (1968; Zbl 0167.29001) and Math. Ann. 198, 179-187 (1972; Zbl 0231.20010)], \textit{B. Hartley} [Algebra Logika 13, 589-602 (1974; Zbl 0305.20019) and Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 74, 11-15 (1973; Zbl 0264.20031)] and the reviewer [J. Algebra 27, 437-444 (1973; Zbl 0274.20048)], among others. All these groups are soluble of derived length two. Using the groups constructed by the reviewer, the authors show that these groups have infinite multipliers which are elementary Abelian groups, and, by extending the original Heineken-Mohamed groups by their multipliers, obtain a Heineken-Mohamed group which is soluble of derived length three. The proofs are long and complicated, as is to be expected.
