A topology \(\sigma\) on a set \(X\) is called self-complementary if there is a homeomorphic copy \(\tau\) on \(X\), such that \(\sigma\wedge\tau\) is the indiscrete and \(\sigma\vee\tau\) is the discrete topology on \(X\). For a finite set \(X\) there is a 1-1 correspondence between topologies and preorders on \(X\). The authors define self-complementarity for preorders on a finite set and solve the problem to give necessary and sufficient conditions for self-complementarity for posets, which correspond to \(T_ 0\)-topologies, and for equivalence relations, which correspond to free unions of discrete topologies.
