    Applying the Banach contraction principle the author proves existence and uniqueness of a continuously differentiable solution of the initial value problem \[ \sum^ m_{k=i} a_ k(x')^ k+bx+f(t,x,x')=0,\qquad x(0)=0,\leqno(*) \] where \(2\leq i\), \(f:D\to R\), \(D:=\{(t,z,y): 0<t\leq\tau, | z|\leq rt, | y|\leq r\}\), \(| f(t,z,y)|\leq\alpha(t)\), \(| f(t,z_ 1,y_ 1)-f(t,z_ 2,y_ 2)|\leq(L+\lambda(t))(| z_ 1-z_ 2|+| y_ 1-y_ 2|)\) for \((t,z,y),(t,z_ 1,y_ 1),(t,z_ 2,y_ 2)\in D\), \(\alpha:(0,\tau]\to(0,\infty)\), \(\lambda:(0,\tau]\to[0,\infty)\), \(\lim_{t-0^ +}\alpha(t)=\lim_{t-0^ +}\lambda(t)=0\), \(\lim_{t- 0^ +}\alpha(t)/t=\sigma\), \(0\leq\sigma\leq\infty\) (if \(\sigma=\infty\) or \(\sigma<\infty\) and \(b=0\), then \(\alpha'(t)\) is a continuous, nonnegative function on \((0,\tau])\); \(\alpha\), \(\lambda\), \(f\) are continuous functions, \(a_ i,\dots,a_ m\), \(b\), \(L\), \(\tau\), \(r\) are constants, \(r>0\), \(L\geq 0\), \(a_ i\neq 0\). The solution \(x\) of (*) fulfils the conditions \(| x(t)|<rt\), \(| x'(t)|<r\), \(\lim_{t-0^ +}x(t)=0\).
