The authors study the space \({\mathfrak R}^ n\) with a norm and a closed symmetric unit ball \(K\). The area \(a(M)\) of hypersurfaces \(M\subset{\mathfrak R}^ n\) then is given with respect to the Lebesgue measure on \({\mathfrak R}^ n\). This area is used to define an area \(a(M,K)\) of \(M\) with respect to the given norm. This definition is given for polyhedral and \(C^ 1\)-hypersurfaces too. Then the authors show a convergence formula for \(a(M,K)\) and give an inequality to estimate upper and lower bounds of \(a(M,K)\).
