The author considers a bounded symmetric domain \(D\cong SU(2,2)/S(U(2)\times U(2))\) represented as an open subset of the set of \(2\times 2\) complex matrices. The modular subgroup \(\Gamma\) of \(SU(2,2)\) of matrices with coefficients in the Gaussian ring \(\mathbb{Z}[i]\) acts discretely on \(D\). Let \(\Gamma(1+i)\) be the congruence subgroup of \(\Gamma\) corresponding to the principal ideal \((1+i)\). The main result of the paper asserts that the Satake compactification of the quotient space \(D/\Gamma(1+i)\) is isomorphic to the projective space \(\mathbb{P}^ 4\). The explicit isomorphism is given by theta functions. In a joint paper with \textit{T. Sasaki} and \textit{M. Yoshida} [Int. J. Math. 3, 1-164 (1992)], this isomorphism is related to an isomorphism between the moduli space of arrangements of 6 lines in \(\mathbb{P}^ 2\) up to association and a certain subspace of the period space of K3 surfaces.
