Coupled map model with a conserved order parameter (Q1178843)

The authors consider a coupled map model which is obtained by a simple discretization of the one-dimensional Cahn-Hilliard equation (a phenomenological nonlinear partial differential equation). They are interested in the role played by the conservation law in the discrete dynamics and the bifurcation structure that arises from the nonlinearity being generic to the phase separation problem. The nature of the phase separation process is determined by the interfacial structure and interface dynamics which is considerably simplified in the case of one space dimension.
