    Given a bounded linear operator \(T\) on a separable infinite dimensional Hilbert space \(H\), let \(\sigma(T)\) denote the spectrum of \(T\) and \(\text{Lat }T\) the lattice of all \(T\)-invariant closed subspaces of \(H\). Then \(T\) is called a von Neumann operator if \(\| f(T)\|\leq\sup \{| f(x)|\): \(z\in\sigma(T)\}\) for all rational functions \(f\) with poles off \(\sigma(T)\) and is said to be reflexive if every operator \(A\) on \(H\) for which \(\text{Lat }A\supset \text{Lat }T\) belongs to the unital algebra generated by \(T\) in the weak operator topology. As its title indicates, the aim of the present paper is to prove that von Neumann operators are reflexive. This is a generalisation of the result of \textit{R. F. Olin} and \textit{J. E. Thomson} [J. Funct. Anal. 37, 271-301 (1980; Zbl 0435.47034)] that subnormal operators are reflexive. The author notes that it has been obtained independently by \textit{J. B. Conway} and \textit{J. J. Dudziak} [J. Reine Angew. Math. 408, 34-56 (1990; Zbl 0734.47001)].
