    The authors prove a formula for the nonramified Whittaker functions on the metaplectic double cover \(\widetilde {Sp}(2n,F)\) of \(Sp(2n,F)\) for a local field \(F\) of odd residue characteristic, which is similar to the formula for nonramified Whittaker functions on reductive algebraic groups found by Shintani, by Kato, and by Casselman and Shalika. Let \(G_ F=Sp(2n,F)\), \(A_ F\) the standard Cartan subgroup of \(G_ F\), \(U_ F\) its subgroup of upper triangular unipotents and \(\widetilde {G_ F}=\widetilde{Sp}(2n,F)\). The normalized metaplectic Whittaker function is defined by \[ W_{\widetilde\chi}(\widetilde g)=(D(\widetilde \chi))^{-1}\int_{U_ F}\phi_{\widetilde \chi}(\widetilde J u\widetilde g)\theta(u)du, \] where \(\phi_{\widetilde \chi}\) is some specific function on \(\widetilde {G_ F}\), \(\theta\) is a nondegenerate character of \(U_ F\), and \[ D(\widetilde\chi)=\prod^ n_{i=1}(1+(p,p)q^{-1/2}\alpha_ i)\prod_{i<j}((1-q^{-1}\alpha_ j\alpha_ i^{-1})(1-q^{-1}\alpha_ j\alpha_ i)) \] for \(\widetilde\chi=\widetilde\chi_{\alpha_ 1,\dots,\alpha_ n}\), \(p\) a local uniformizer of \(F\), \(q\) the order of the residue field, and \(( , )\) the local Hilbert symbol. Then the following theorem holds: Theorem 1. The Whittaker function \(W_{\widetilde \chi}\), originally defined for \(\widetilde\chi\) dominant, has a holomorphic continuation to the full space of unramified genuine characters, which is invariant under the action of the Weyl group \(\Omega\): \(W_{\omega_{\widetilde\chi}}(\widetilde g)=W_{\widetilde\chi}(\widetilde g)\) for all \(\widetilde g\in\widetilde G_ F\), \(\omega\in \Omega\). They also give the explicit formula for \(W_{\widetilde\chi}(\widetilde g)\): Theorem 2. Let \(a\in A_ F\) be a diagonal matrix with entries \((y_ n,\dots,y_ 1,y^{-1}_ 1,\dots,y^{-1}_ n)\) and \(\text{ord}(y_ i)=k_ i\). Then \[ W_{\widetilde\chi}(s(a))=\begin{cases} \delta^{1/2}(a)\gamma(a)^{-1}C_ \chi(k_ 1,\dots,k_ n)&\text{if \(0\leq k_ 1\leq\cdots \leq k_ n\)}\\0 &\text{otherwise},\end{cases} \] where \(g\in G_ F\), \(s(g)=\langle g,1\rangle\in\widetilde{G_ F}\) and \(a\in A_ F\).
