Let \(A\) and \(B\) be square matrices with entries in \(\mathbb{C}[[q]]\), the ring of formal power series in \(q\) over the complex field. Let \(| A|\) denote the determinant, \(A'\) the adjoint. We show that \[ \begin{aligned} 1+x(1 &-q)^{-1}(A-B)+x^ 2((1-q)(1-q^ 2))^{-1}(A-qB)(A-B)+\cdots \\ &+x^ n((1-q)(1-q^ 2)\cdots(1-q^ n))^{-1}(A-q^{n-1}B)(A-q^{n- 2}B)\cdots(A-B)+\cdots \\ &=[(| 1-Ax|)(| 1-Aqx|)(| 1-Aq^ 2x|)\cdots(| 1-Aq^{(n-1)}x|)\cdots]^{-1} \\ &\times[(1-Ax)'(1-Bx)(1-Aqx)'(1-Bqx)(1-Aq^ 2x)' \\ &\times(1-Bq^ 2x)\cdots(1-Aq^{(n-1)}x)'(1-Bq^{(n-1)}x)\cdots].\end{aligned} \]
