This paper is a continuation of the author's papers in ibid. 65, No.\ 8, 304-306 (1989; Zbl 0709.11062) and 66, No.\ 6, 132-136 (1990; Zbl 0709.11063). Its content can be briefly described as follows. Let \(K/k\) be a finite Galois extension of number fields with Galois group \(G\), let \(S\) be a finite set of places of \(k\) containing all places which ramify in \(K/k\). Let \(I^ +(S)\) be the free commutative monoid generated by all places not contained in \(S\) and let \(M\) denote the multiplicative monoid generated by certain averaged class sums in the center of the group ring of \(G\) over \(\mathbb{Z}[1/n]\), where \(n=(K:k)\). The author shows that the Grothendieck group of \(M\) is isomorphic to \(G/G'\), \(G'=\) commutator subgroup of \(G\), and, using his previous results, constructs a surjective group homomorphism \(I(S)\to G/G'\) where \(I(S)=\) Grothendieck group of \(I^ +(S)\). This epimorphism is more or less the Artin map in the maximal abelian subextension of \(K/k\).
