A logarithmic Enriques surface is a normal projective surface \(\overline V\) defined over \(\mathbb{C}\) such that (1) \(\overline V\) has only quotient singularities with \(\text{Sing}(\overline V)\neq\emptyset\), (2) \(NK_{\overline V}\) is a trivial Cartier divisor for a positive integer \(N\), and (3) \(q(\overline V):=\dim H^ 1(\overline V,{\mathcal O}_{\overline V})=0\). It is apparently a generalization of a \(K3\) surface and an Enriques surface in the smooth case. The smallest positive integer \(I\) such that \(IK_{\overline V}\) is a trivial Cartier divisor is called the index of \(K_{\overline V}\). Let \(c:=\#(\text{Sing} \overline V)\), let \(f:V\to\overline V\) be the minimal resolution of singularities and let \(D:=f^{-1}(\text{Sing} \overline V)\) be the reduced exceptional divisor. Then there exists a \(\mathbb{Z}/I\mathbb{Z}\) covering \(\pi:\overline U\to\overline V\) (called the canonical covering of \(\overline V)\) which is finite and branched only over \(\text{Sing} \overline V\). \(\overline U\) has only rational double singular points and its minimal resolution of singularities \(U\) is either an abelian surface or a \(K3\) surface. The author obtains various interesting inequalities involving \(I\), \(c\), \((D,K_ V)\) etc., the structure theorems on \(\overline V\) and \(U\) and the distributions of singular points on \(\overline V\). In particular, \(I\leq 66\) and \(I\leq 19\) if \(I\) is a prime number.
