The author addresses the question: If \(K(c^ 2_ n/1)\) is a continued fraction with \[ | c_{2n-1}|=\rho\text{ and } | c_{2n}+i|=\rho\text{ for } n=1,2,3,\ldots \leqno (1) \] for a given \(\rho\), \(0<\rho<1\), what can then be said about its value? The fact that \(K(c^ 2_ n/1)\) converges is evident from the following theorem by \textit{W. J. Thron}: If \[ | c_{2n-1}|\leq\rho\text{ and } | c_{2n}\pm i|\geq\rho\text{ for } n=1,2,3\ldots,\leqno (2) \] then \(K(c^ 2_ n/1)\) converges to a value \(f\), \(| f|\leq\rho\). The question is therefore: How large part of the circular disk \(| w|\leq\rho\) will be the range of the values of the continued fractions \(K(c^ 2_ n/1)\) from the much smaller class (1)? (Boundary version of (2).) The author shows that the possible values fill the annulus \[ \rho{1-\rho\over 3+\rho}\leq| f|\leq\rho.\leqno (3) \] He also characterizes the set of all possible values of \(K^ \infty_{n=2}(c^ 2_ n/1)\) for continued fractions from this class.
