For each natural number \(n\), a random partition of \(n\) is defined by the so-called Ewens sampling formula with parameter \(\theta>0\). When the total number of individuals is \(n\) in a birth process with immigration, having immigration rate \(\theta\) and birth rate 1, the sizes of the initiated families of each migrant also follow Ewens sampling formula. Hence random partitions can be embedded in such processes. Let in a random partition defined as above \(K_ n(u)\) be the number of parts of length at most \(n^ u\). Using the embedding it is proved that \(K_ n(\cdot)\) suitably normalized converges weakly to a Brownian motion on \([0,1]\).
