This paper is a very comprehensive study of a class of pseudoconvex domains in \(\mathbb{C}^ n\) verifying an extremal (maximal) estimate for the \(\overline\partial\) problem. The author introduces a new notion of type of a boundary point which is related to those previously introduced and studied by T. Bloom and I. Graham, J. D'Angelo, D. Catlin. There are three kinds of results: one which is concerned with the description of the type of a boundary point, secondly --- a theorem on optimal subelliptic estimate related to the type and, finally --- a necessary condition for the existence on the boundary of such a domain of a real vector field which commutes in a ``good'' sense with the holomorphic and antiholomorhic vector fields. The last theorem of the present paper shows that every domain with maximal estimate in a point of degeneracy can not be diagonalized near this point.
