The author generalizes the concept of the well-known so-called Morgan- Scott triangulation to arbitrary dimensions and finds a necessary and sufficient condition for the space of piecewise quadratic overall \(C^ 1\) splines to contain a true spline, i.e. a function that is not just the same quadratic polynomial everywhere. In \(\mathbb{R}^ 2\), this condition can be rewritten to state that certain lines connecting inner and boundary vertices of the triangulation intersect in one point, but in higher dimensions this intersection property is only a sufficient, but not a necessary condition.
