The aim of this paper is to present parametric curve and surface algorithms for geometric modeling which minimize design constraints while maximizing flexibility and extensibility for providing a natural interface to curve design. An algorithm for fitting spline curves to piecewise-linear, sketched data sets is given. A reparametrization scheme for curves is presented, along with a method for generating cross-boundary derivative functions on general topological meshes. These algorithms have been implemented in a production geometric modeling systems, the Conceptual Design and Rendering System (CDRS), written in Common LISP. Applications in automobile styling via a computer system are presented (7 figures).
